Dr. Victor Iannello, President and CEO

Dr. Iannello is the founder of Synchrony Inc., where he is responsible for the overall technical and business direction of the organization. Under his supervision, Synchrony has become a world-leader in the field. Prior to forming Synchrony, he was the Director of Development for Magnetic Bearings Inc.

 

Dr. Iannello received his B.S., M.S., and Sc.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Nuclear Engineering. He has led many programs related to high performance rotating machinery and holds patents related to magnetic bearings, motors, generators, and energy conversion systems. He is also a co-founder of Sunapsys, Inc., which integrates automation systems.

Brian Mackey, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Mackey directs and manages Synchrony’s day-to-day operations, including various administrative functions. Prior to joining Synchrony, he was the vice president of operations for a large building products manufacturer and distributor.

 

Mr. Mackey holds a B.S. in engineering from West Point and an MBA from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt, as certified by the American Society for Quality. As an active duty officer in the Army Corps of Engineers, he completed construction projects in the U.S. and abroad.

 

Carl Hoffman, Vice President, Finance

Mr. Hoffman leads the finance and accounting functions for Synchrony, with direct oversight for financial reporting and controls. With a background that is rooted in manufacturing, he is responsible for the procedures and systems that ensure that Synchrony’s financial goals are achieved. Carl’s previous experience includes work in both the public and private sector.

 

Mr. Hoffman received his B.S. in Accounting from Virginia Tech.

 

Troy Jamison, Senior Vice President, Business Development

Mr. Jamison is responsible for the sales and marketing organization and growing Synchrony’s commercial and government business. Before joining Synchrony, Troy led a global business unit for Danfoss Drives at their headquarters in Denmark. His industry experience includes an emphasis on variable frequency drives and power electronics.

 

Mr. Jamison holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

 

G. Robinson (Rob) Erdman, PE, Director of R&D and Compliance Officer

As program manager, Mr. Erdman has led many development efforts that have introduced new products and the demonstration of key technologies. He also serves as the Compliance Officer for all export-controlled technology and ITAR issues. Prior to joining Synchrony, Mr. Erdman was planning manager at Yokohama Tire.

 

Mr. Erdman holds the degrees of Master of Engineering Administration and Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, both from Virginia Tech. Mr. Erdman is a licensed Professional Engineer and a certified Systems Integrator by the Institute of Industrial Engineers.

 

Dr. Christopher K. Sortore, Principal Engineer

Dr. Sortore's expertise lies in the design and control of electromechanical systems. Dr. Sortore leads the mechanical design and analysis of our products, including magnetic bearings, electrical machines and rotating machinery. He has developed magnetic bearing systems, electromagnetic actuators and rotating machinery for General Electric, United Technologies and Aura Systems. He possesses a wealth of practical design experience combined with scientific insight. He holds six patents for electromechanical devices.

 

Dr. Sortore completed his graduate studies at the University of Virginia where he performed research for the Rotating Machinery and Controls (ROMAC) laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Eric Maslen.

 

Dr. R. Jett Field, Principal Engineer

As a principal engineer at Synchrony, Dr. Field has led the design of magnetic bearings, starter-generators and instrumentation for gas turbine engines. Dr. Field’s areas of expertise include computer applications development, model development and power electronics.

 

Dr. Field earned his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and has taught at Yale University. His undergraduate degree in physics was obtained at the University of Virginia. Dr. Field has nine patents related to optics and semi-conductor materials in addition to four patents related to magnetic bearings and instrumentation.

 

 

Ken Kerr, Principal Engineer

Mr. Kerr leads Synchrony's Software Development and IT groups. In his software development role, he is responsible for the design, development and implementation of the software that supports Synchrony's products. This includes embedded software, data acquisition, presentation and storage, as well as custom process control. As head of the IT group, Mr. Kerr oversees maintenance and development of the corporate IT infrastructure.

 

Mr. Kerr holds an Electrical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech with graduate work in control theory.

 

Vince Hatcher, PE, PMP, Plant Manager

As Plant Manager, Mr. Hatcher is responsible for the day-to-day manufacturing operations and Synchrony's corporate quality program - which recently was awarded the ISO-9001:2008 certification. Mr. Hatcher has over 19 years of experience in manufacturing and operations.

 

Mr. Hatcher earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MS in Systems Engineering, both from Virginia Tech. He also is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Virginia and holds many professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (Project Management Institute) and has earned Six Sigma Black Belt.
