Turbogenerators Synchrony is developing a compact, high performance power generation system for the Department of Defense. The system would provide about 200 kW of electrical power for auxiliary and mobile applications. The power system integrates a high efficiency, high speed generator with a small gas turbine engine. The generator is directly-coupled to the engine and supported on magnetic bearings so that there is no need for oil and the reliability of the system is very high. The resulting package is a fraction of the size and weight of diesel generators of comparable power rating. The turbogenerator also offers flexibility in the the choice of fuel, including jet fuel, gasoline, diesel, and natural gas. In addition to defense applications, other uses are:
