When you consider the fact that your bathroom is one of the most used rooms in your home, giving it a refresh can bring more joy to your space. And redecorating or renovating your bathroom doesn't have to cost a fortune—nor does it need to be a big project that takes weeks to complete.

Giving your bathroom a fresh coat of paint is one of the least expensive ways to redecorate. Depending on the size of your bathroom, it may only take a single can of paint to complete the job. You'd also have to purchase paint rollers, brushes, trays and tape—but in total, you'd likely only spend a few hundred dollars.
If your walls are currently dark or tan, consider a lighter color to make the space look bigger.1 Want to have some fun? Paint the ceiling the same color as your walls (or a color other than white) to make your bathroom feel like a spa.
Depending on when your home was built or last renovated, you may have some outdated lighting fixtures. Hardware and lighting stores have hundreds of lights to choose from that can make the room pop. Just be sure to look for something that gives your bathroom enough light.
Light fixtures vary in price, but it shouldn't be difficult to find one that fits your budget. And while it's possible to install a new light yourself, it might be a better idea to hire a handyman or electrician to do the work for you—so be sure to factor that cost into your bathroom renovation plans.
Getting a new vanity and mirror can give your bathroom a fresh look, and it can be done affordably. Prefabricated vanities are typically the cheapest option, and you can find tons of styles at different price points. Just make sure to look for a vanity that gives you the storage space you need.
Adding a brand-new mirror may also be worthwhile, as they're relatively affordable. And if you're changing your vanity and mirror, you could also take the opportunity to get a new sink. Don't forget to set aside some of your budget for installation.
Instead of buying something new, you can refresh your existing vanity with a few small changes. For instance, you can resurface your drawers, which involves replacing the doors or surfaces of your drawers with new ones. You can also add new handles, swap your faucet and paint your vanity to give it a new look.
Rather than replacing your bathtub, which could cost hundreds (or thousands!) of dollars, try relining or refinishing your current tub, which will be significantly cheaper.
You can order a refinishing kit online for about $100 to instantly give your bathtub a high-gloss look. You can even change the color of your tub with a refinishing kit. Once the job is done, it'll look like a brand-new tub.
Another idea is to simply recaulk your bathtub. This is a low-cost job that can easily be done yourself.
Changing your shower tiles doesn't have to be expensive—the average job typically costs between $450 and $1,000 for materials.2 Ceramic tiles are generally the cheapest option; you can get them for as little as $.50 per square foot.2
If you plan on redoing the floor in your bathroom, opt for vinyl or laminate flooring, which is cheaper than stone and tile.
Keep in mind that these cost estimates are for materials only. You'll also need to budget for labor if you're hiring a professional to do the installation for you.
Bathrooms can unintentionally become storage closets. Before considering a renovation, try decluttering. Purchase some attractive shelving for plants or towels, or stylish storage bins to keep your toiletries out of sight. Alternatively, you could buy jars to organize and store items like cotton pads and swabs. Using a nice soap container can also give your bathroom a cleaner look.
The idea is to ensure that all the items you purchase complement each other, so you get a consistent look. Even getting new towels, a shower curtain and a nice toothbrush holder can give the room a boost.
Give your bathroom pizzazz by adding some bathroom accessories. Shower mats now come in different shapes and colors, so you don't need to settle for something basic. You can also add art to your bathroom walls, a decorative soap pump or plants on shelves to give your bathroom a hotel feel. And adding a few trinkets or souvenirs you've picked up on your travels can give your bathroom a fresh look at no extra cost.
Updating your bathroom doesn't have to break the bank. With a few small touches and accessories, you can transform a dated space into a modern sanctuary for relaxation. Depending on the cost, you may be able to pay for the project with personal savings, or you may want to finance your project.
